UNCC & The Idea People’s Big Data

Mega Partnership Formed with UNCC

The Idea People is proud to announce that we have joined forces with UNC Charlotte as a member of their CCI Partners Program. The CCI Partners Program fosters mutually-beneficial collaborative relationships between the College of Computing and Informatics at UNC Charlotte and select businesses like The Idea People. The relationships and support provided by CCI Partners contribute greatly to UNC Charlotte's continued growth in relevant and emerging technologies, while providing quality education for students.

As a Mega Partner, The Idea People benefit from greater exposure to, and involvement in, the College's activities and future direction. With Big Data, the opportunities to achieve previously impossible algorithms and data delivery via web and mobile are limitless. We are working with cutting-edge data scientists and predictive algorithms to process enormous amounts of data, providing users with a more focused, custom-tailored digital experience.

"We are developing two projects that use Big Data and data science – a social media network and a mobile application for small businesses," said Jay Joyce, president of The Idea People. "The era of Big Data is upon us, so it's important to support the growth and education of this emerging web and mobile software trend. That's one reason why we partnered with UNC Charlotte's College of Computing and Informatics."

College of Computing and Informatics?

1.9 million Big Data jobs will be created by 2015. Two-thirds of those jobs could go unfulfilled due to lack of qualified talent. UNC Charlotte's College of Computing and Informatics is committed to being the recognized leader for competitive, innovative and market-responsive computing and informatics education. Through this commitment, the College continues to develop focused, trend-setting research excellence with national and international recognition, and be acknowledged as the leader and go-to place for partnerships and collaborations.

UNC Charlotte created the Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA) Initiative to respond to the challenges of Big Data and position the Charlotte region as a leading hub for innovation and economic development. Led by the College of Computing and Informatics and the Belk College of Business, the DSBA brings together the best minds in academia and history.

"This unprecedented collaboration links the business of data with the science of data to create groundbreaking eduction, training and research programs," said Joyce. "Effectively using Big Data is critical to the future productivity, competitiveness and even survival of businesses in the 21st Century, and we want to be at the forefront."

Big Data and Predictive Analytics

Predictive analytics encompasses a variety of statistical techniques from modeling, machine learning and data mining that analyze current and historical facts to make predictions about future, or otherwise unknown, events. Predictive analytics is used in marketing, finance, insurance, telecommunications, retail, travel, healthcare and many other fields.  "We are writing predictive behavior software with two projects that are in development now," added Joyce.  "This is amazing how our technology teams write the algorithms and mathematical formulas to take data and express it in terms that both a user and a marketer can use."

Marketers use predictive analytics to locate social media users with purchase intent so they can better target advertisements and marketing messages. Did you know that Facebook ingests approximately 500 times more data each day than the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)? At The Idea People, we are already benefitting from mining Big Data for audience targeting and personalized, predictive marketing.

The Future of Big Data Marketing

"One of our company mission statement goals is to open doors for our clients into new technologies and access resources that they could never have on their own, " said Joyce. "As mobile usage continues to dominate business people and consumers, Big Data and sophisticated algorithms from data scientists will emerge as the primary way to reach, target and deliver highly relevant content and information to a customer base. And we’ll be at the forefront to harness and make these resources available to our customer bases through web development."
