Outbound vs. Inbound Marketing from The Idea People
Leave it to the marketing industry to create new terms! We have been getting questions from clients about “inbound marketing” and “how can I use this?” So here is a quick explanation about Inbound and Outbound Marketing.
Outbound Marketing
Outbound marketing is everything that businesses have used since the beginning of time to market out business. Magazine ads, newspaper ads, tradeshows, direct mail, TV and radio ads, telemarketing, client lunches, and even email marketing. Outbound marketing is everything that “goes out” to find customers and prospects.
We’re all getting smart on how to block Outbound Marketing messages…Caller ID, Spam Filters, Canceling Publication Subscriptions in favor of Web News, and even On-Demand TV and Radio (think XM and Sirius!)
Outbound Marketing is expensive and your customers and prospects are cutting back on travel to tradeshows, expensive subscriptions, lunch and dinner meetings, long-distance calls, etc. The Internet is replacing traditional outbound marketing methods.
Inbound Marketing
Inbound Marketing is new. Inbound Marketing are Internet-based tools that attract and pull customers and prospects toward your business. Inbound Marketing asks “permission” of your prospect.
Inbound Marketing tools and techniques include Micro Websites targeted at specific interests, SEO techniques, Pay-per-Click Ads and Campaigns, Blogs, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other Social Media outlets.
Your customers are going to the Internet in droves to start their purchasing process. You’re doing it, too! Talk with us about using Inbound Marketing tools and techniques to mix in with your traditional Outbound Marketing. It will get you closer to your customers at the time they are searching for you!
